Three Juveniles Charged in Lakeville Photo Scandal Plead Guilty

Four Century Middle School students were charged with gross misdemeanors for their alleged roles in taking inappropriate photos and video of another student and sharing them with the student population.

Three of the four of two female students undressing in a locker room of  have made guilty pleas in juvenile court.

Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced the guilty pleas this morning.

All told, the three students—two boys, one 13 and one 14-years-old, and a 14-year-old girl—pleaded guilty to once charge each of Conspiracy to Interference With Privacy. But the juvenile court disposition handed down by Judge Michael Sovis includes a Stay of Adjudication, meaning the criminal conviction will not appear on their record, assuming certain criteria are met.

The conditions:

  • Each must complete 30 hours of community service
  • Serve 180 days of probation
  • Each must attend a victim empathy class
  • And each must write a letter of apology to the victims of the photo incident

There's no word on the state of charges for the other 14-year-old girl charged.

All told, four students were charged with crimes, and 16 students suspended in connection with the incident.

As , district officials discovered that two girls took photos and video on their cell phones of two other female victims undressing in the locker room at the school. Those girls then sent the photos and video to two boys who agreed to pay them $5 and a can of soda for the images. The boys then forwarded the images to others, and authorities believe more than 40 may have ultimately received the inappropriate photos and video.
