Dear Neighbors,
It has been a busy couple of weeks at the Capitol. Governor Dayton continues to talk about his budget and push for additional sales, income, and business-to-business taxes. I disagree with Governor Dayton’s approach. Prosperity is the result of free market competition, innovation, and growth.
These things are achieved when government adopts the pro-growth policies of minimal taxation and regulation. Greater prosperity reduces the need for government services. There is then plenty of money to provide the basic government services we all want and expect. In the attached update, I discuss S.F. 5, Medical Existence Expansion, taxes, education, and transportation.

Not to mention all these taxes effect the low to moderate income folks!!! Sales tax hurt low to moderate income people the most. Dayton is also out to kill small business in Minnesota with this B2B tax and raising the minimum wage. As a small business owner, I understand that if many small businesses are forced to raise wages and pay more taxes, they will have to lay people off or go out of business. When will people learn these types of things hurt low income and small business.

His pet press is making the most of his supposedly "no gimmicks" budget, but continually trying to hide the real effects of his policies through indirect taxes is not only dishonest, but bad policy. An equitable tax structure along with sane government spending would be a far better place to start. Somewhere amongst the multi-multi-millionaires in his extended families there ought to be somebody that could teach him the basics of running a business.

Republicans shut down the government, broke promises on school funding, raided the tobacco fund, appropriated the stimulus money from Washington and left many needs unmet. Yet Senator Thompson had the nerve to say: "I wish we had done more!"
We, the Citizens, lost income, we were forced to pay higher costs, take out loans and pay interest. The overall effect of the GOP actions drove us deeper into the hands of capitalistic profiteers. To divert our attention and mask their failures the GOP Officials created issues out of Voter ID and the Marriage Amendment.
It is clear now that kicking the can down the road again will not solve our problems. We need more money!
According to MN Dept. of Rev Tax Handbook, today we are paying the lowest tax in 30 years, 6% to 8%. In the time of Governors Anderson, Perpich and Ouie when the State was flourishing, the taxes were 12-18% and the rich also paid their fair share.
Instead of sabotaging Governor Dayton's work to get Minnesota back to prosperity, it is your job to serve and give support to those efforts. You are those “smart Senators” so if you don’t like Dayton’s idea come up with something better! Prosperity and Freedom don’t come free, - so man up to it and do something constructive. What you are doing today it is simply inflammatory and not in the service of the People. - After the damage you caused in the past

Under 'Transportation'...I agree with Senator Thompson: NO to S.F. 174 Dan Patch commuter rail study. Northstar rail was a failed experiment. Let's move on.
