May Omnibus Scheduled for Man Accused of Punching Son in Lakeville

Steven Ohara Wilson, 52, was originally scheduled to make his first appearance in court on Feb. 13 but that date was inexplicably moved to Feb. 6.

The next hearing date has been set for a 52-year-old Eagan man accused of holding his son's head with one arm while using the other arm to punch him after his 8th-grade team lost in a basketball tournament in Lakeville.

Dakota County District Court Judge Martha M. Simonett scheduled an omnibus hearing for Steven Ohara Wilson on May 7 to determine whether sufficient probable cause exists to bring the case to trial.

Judge Simonett released Wilson on his own recognizance and ordered him to remain law abiding and to make all future court dates.

Wilson was originally scheduled to make his first appearance in court on Feb. 13 but court records reveal that the date was moved to Feb. 6.

No reason was given for the date change and no one at defense attorney Max Keller's office was willing to comment on the case.

No date has been set for a pre-trial hearing or jury trial.

Originally charged with fifth-degree domestic assault on Dec. 10, the Dakota County Attorney's office issued additional charges—malicious punishment of a child and child neglect—on Dec. 19.

According to a Dakota County criminal complaint, nearby parents had to intervene to stop the Dec. 10 incident in which Wilson allegedly pushed his son into a wall at Lakeville South High School and "took several swings" at the boy.
