Lakeville South Falls to BSM at State Hockey Tournament

Cougars will face Moorhead for third place at 4 p.m. Saturday.

One day after a historic defeat of top-ranked Duluth East in the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament, Lakeville South ran into a red hot Red Knight team from Benilde-St. Margaret’s who continued their own Cinderella story with a 10-1 drubbing of the Cougars in a Friday night semifinal match at the Xcel Energy Center.

BSM’s Dan Labosky lit up the red light barely one minute into the game and the Red Knights jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first period. Labosky secured a hat trick late in the third period to put BSM up 9-0 before a late goal by the Cougars spoiled BSM’s shutout bid.

The Cougars (21-9) will have a chance to bounce back against a physical Moorhead team (22-7) in order to claim a third-place trophy on Saturday. The puck drops for that match-up at 4 p.m. in St. Paul.
